The Seven Stars Foundation was asked by Marine Corps Base 29 Palms to provide gift baskets for 20 families that were coming to their loved ones' Memorial Service. Their squadron was returning from deployment and it was the first time the families were to honor their loved ones. We put items in the baskets that would try to ease the pain they were about to experience. It was an honor to be asked. See the attached letter.

Good afternoon ma'am. Thank you for supporting our fallen warriors families with the gift baskets at our memorial. It was greatly appreciated by all. If possible, could I get your address so I can mail you a certificate of appreciation from the Battalion Commander.
Thank you.
Semper Fi,
SgtMaj Brookshire, M.B.

On Sunday, June 15, 2008, and into next Monday, you can expect to see a number of runners making their way through Big Bear, as part of the cross-country Run for the Fallen. The run begins tomorrow, Flag Day, in front of Painted Rocks at Fort Irwin (just north of Barstow) and will cover more than 4,000 miles and 13 states before wrapping at Arlington National Cemetery on August 24. The Run for the Fallen is to honor American military personnel who have lost their lives in Iraq, and the runners will mark every mile of their journey with an American flag and a personalized sign card, one to honor each service member killed. The dedication markers were made with the help of over 35 middle and high schools across the country. The run's director Jon Bellona, whose college roommate Lieutenant Michael J. Cleary was killed in action in 2005, says, “The run is a symbolic memorial. While each flag will represent a soldier who has fallen, the run will stand as one large stitch spanning the width of the nation, coast to coast.” The Run for the Fallen route will include the stretch of Highway 38 recently memorialized in honor of Big Bear's 1st Lieutenant Jared Landaker, whose flag and marker will be placed in Noah, Tennessee on August 5. For more information on the cross-county run to honor our country's fallen soldiers, visit www.runforthefallen.org and http://blog.runforthefallen.org/links/.

Dedication on Highway 38 on May 2, 2008!
